Filing Alert: Guidepost Montessori Operator Chapter 11
Operator of the Guidepost Montessori Network Files Chapter 11 in Northern District of Texas
Higher Ground Education, Inc. and its debtor affiliates⁽¹⁾, a Houston, TX-based operator of Montessori-inspired early childhood education schools under the Guidepost Montessori brand, filed for Chapter 11 protection on Jun. 17 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Texas.
The filing follows sustained operating losses (over $440 million in the past five years) and rent burdens that triggered a string of lender foreclosures, cutting the Guidepost Montessori network from roughly 150 schools at the end of 2024 to only seven as of the petition date.
Under a restructuring support agreement backed by plan sponsor 2HR Learning, Guidepost Global Education, and other major stakeholders, the debtors have secured up to $8 million in senior-and-junior DIP financing (including a $2 million roll-up) to fund the case and support a pre-arranged plan slated for confirmation by September 30, 2025.
The company reports $100 million to $500 million in both assets and liabilities. The filing indicates that there will be funds available for distribution to unsecured creditors. The case number is 25-80121.
